  4. Gangs turn a Florida interstate into a mobile killing zone

  7.     As if hurricane Andrew wasn't bad enough for Florida's
  8. tourism industry, now the state is facing a man-made disaster:
  9. snipers taking potshots at cars along Interstate 295, conduit for
  10. some 80,000 vehicles a day around downtown Jacksonville and the
  11. primary route for East Coast snowbirds headed south for
  12. Florida's beaches.

  14.     Since February more than 150 shootings and rock throwings
  15. have been reported by drivers along the 15-mile stretch of
  16. highway. Police have confirmed 37 attacks, one death and three
  17. injuries. After the American Automobile Association warned
  18. motorists to avoid I-295 this month, National Guard troops began
  19. patrolling in military vehicles and helicopters. Despite the
  20. precautions, three more shootings were reported. Then police got
  21. a break. Two teenage gang members were arrested on attempted
  22. murder charges in the shooting of a motorist. The troops aren't
  23. going home just yet, however. Police believe other gangs may be
  24. involved too.
